What We Do

LANKA LAMA SAMAJA

Forming societies call Lanka Lama Samaja at each Grama Niladhari Division in all Divisional Secretariats consisting of 5-year old children who are stepping out to the society, with the aim of creating a country free from all differences in race, caste and creed. The inaugural step in this respect commenced from Dambulla Divisional Secretariat.

WORLD CHILDREN’S DAY

As a secondary objective, we select School’s with needy children from rural areas & provide a large number of necessary items such as exercise books, pencils, pens, drawing books, colour pencils, uniform materiel with a bag and pair of sleepers/shoes. This is done annually to commemorate world children’s day. We also present new or barely worn sarees and shirts with dry rations such as sugar, tea & dhal to the parents to commemorate elders’ day.

About “Lanka Lama Samaja”

As an initial step to realizing our objectives, we have launched a project covering all 59 Grama Niladari Divisions under Dambulla Divisional Secretariat, by setting up Children’s Societies (“Lama Samaja”). We hope to extend our reach to the other areas of Sri Lanka as well.

“Lama Samaja” will be formed at District level based on the information collected from “Grama Seva Niladharis”. Meetings will be held monthly and various programmes will be organized to develop the minds of children in line with the Organization’s theme. Awards will be offered to encourage children to develop their capabilities and good habits while developing affability amongst members of the “Lama Samaja”.

We will select capable parents and solicit their help to assist the poorer families. In order to encourage these parents in that respect ‘Awards for Cooperation’ will be awarded annually. In order to coordinate the above work, a District Coordinating Officer will be appointed to each district and the initial step will be to make the parents aware of the Organization’s objectives.

“Lama Samaja” will be formed with children who have completed five years of age, whose information will be collected through “Grama Niladharis”. Thereafter, monthly meetings of “Lama Samaja” will be held with the assistance of Wardens. Wardens will be selected after interviewing GCE (O/L) qualified individuals within the respective district.

The Organization will supply a book prepared by the Organization to each child showing good values (good & bad habits). There will be few blank pages left out to write down the activities of each child. This will be helpful at the end of each year to select those suitable for presentation of awards.

At the monthly meetings, an hour will be devoted for activities to develop children’s patriotism through singing and dancing, etc. At the beginning of these meetings every Society will worship their respective religions. “Lama Aruna” theme song and other nationalist and patriotic songs provided by the organization will be played and the children will be trained to sing the National Anthem properly with due respect.

A bi-annual meeting will be held with the participation of parents. The office bearers of the Organization will also participate for this meeting. Each Warden will submit a monthly report to the Organization regarding the activities of their “Lama Samaja”.

Children who attend regularly will be rewarded at the end of the year, based on Warden’s reports and the 5 best Wardens will also be presented with gifts.
